A Touch of Texas
Hosted by Charlie Hanson
Hi, I’m Charlie Hansen and I host a show called “A Touch Of Texas” and co-host a show called “Music – PEI” with Nancy Keddy on CIOE FM 97.5 and communityradio.ca.
I started my career in music as a guitar player for local fiddlers in my hometown of Georgetown, PEI. When the Rock & N Roll epidemic took hold in the 50s & 60s I became a drummer in a band called The Thunderbolts.
Later in the early 70s I moved to Toronto and played drums for a commercial rock band called Blend. After a year of that I moved on to country music and played for a year or so with Chef Adams and The Adams Boys which lead me to a job with Diane Leigh and The Shades Of Blue where I stayed for six years.
When I finally had enough of Toronto I moved home and worked for thirty years with the PEI Liquor Control Commission. During this time I kept playing music and in 1992 a friend (Neil Matthews) and I opened a small recording studio called H&M Productions which ran until I moved to Halifax in 2015.
Over the years I’ve collected a large quantity of classic style country music. Much of this music is recorded by independent artists as well as the old standbys. On my show you’ll hear Willie, Waylon, George and Ray and if
you don’t know these names then you don’t like real country music.
Don’t forget, A Touch Of Texas and Music – PEI are just two examples of the fine programming heard on CIOE 97.5 and communityradio.ca.

Each week I will select songs from varied artists who you may know very well and from some others who you might not be so familiar with. I will also have two segments that I call “Artist’s Profile” whereby I highlight a bit of their BIO along with three or four of their songs off their latest CDs. Plus, I feature one fiddler or instrumentalist throughout the show.
Please join me every Saturday from noon ‘til two as we explore the music that makes up the fabric of Cape Breton culture. We’re CIOE, the voice of East Coast music.

Music PEI
Hosted by Charlie Hanson
Hi, I’m Charlie Hansen. Nancy Keddy and I host Music – PEI on CIOE FM 97.5 and
communityradio.ca.
I’ve been involved in the music industry on PEI since before there was a music industry. I started my first band with a group of friends in 1961 and played until I moved to Toronto in the early 70s. I moved back to PEI in the late 70s and continued to play until I moved to Halifax in 2015.
A friend of mine and I started a recording studio in about 1992 and I ran that until 2015. Due to the move to Halifax I had to shut the studio down.
I still play occasionally on PEI and enjoy it when I can get over and jam with friends.
Along the way I’ve been President and a life member of the PEI Bluegrass & Old Time Music Society, the first president of the PEI Music Awards Association (now Music PEI). I’m also a life member of
Music PEI.
I’ve been involved in radio both on PEI and in Nova Scotia for twenty five years. Along the way I’ve won the Bluegrass Radio/TV DJ Of The Year Award (2003 & 2004), The Stompin’ Tom Award (2004) and the Music PEI Weekend Warrior Award (2004). The jewel in the crown of my life in music was being granted a Lifetime Achievement Award from Music PEI in 2013.
With the support of the listeners across the world and the members of the PEI music community we hope that Music – PEI will grow and prosper over the years.
